Hawkins Elementary School

Hawkins Independent School District

SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE IMPACT FUTURE-FORWARD DESIGN

Multiple projects were undertaken at Hawkins ISD, encompassing both the High School/Middle School and Elementary campuses. The Elementary School library underwent a remarkable transformation, resulting in a space that caters to a diverse range of age groups and activities. The newly designed library now boasts areas specifically designated for individual reading and studying, as well as spaces conducive to group work and collaborative endeavors among students, all within a dynamic and enjoyable environment.

These revitalized spaces have brought about a significant positive impact at Hawkins ISD, and as a result, there have been noticeable improvements in several key areas. First and foremost, the transformed environment has led to a substantial increased number of words read from 9.7 million to 24.5 million words. Students have taken over 8,000 tests on Accelerated Reader as compared to the previous year of nearly 4,000. Their reading average has increased from the prior year of 76.8% to 80.5%.

It is worth noting that the project was meticulously designed to comply with the standards set by LEED BD+C: Schools v3, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Presently, the project is undergoing a thorough review by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as part of the certification process.
