V-SHAPED COMPLEX WITH STRATEGIC SEPERATION

This project included replacing most of the district’s existing facilities to provide all grade levels with a 21st century learning environment. For energy efficiency, security, noise control and longevity, the new building is constructed entirely of insulated concrete formed walls.

Other building components include high performance metal roofing system, thermally broken aluminum curtain wall system and full height masonry veneer. Safety was a large design consideration for this V-shaped complex, which strategically separates elementary and high school students into separate wings and then further secures them from each other and the public with multiple security vestibules and integrated access control door hardware, intrusion detection and video surveillance systems.

The school also provides storm safe spaces for all occupants via two FEMA 361 compliant tornado safe rooms. The building provides 17 elementary classrooms, 16 secondary classrooms, 7 student support rooms, a full-service cafeteria and kitchen, new library\media center and a new vocational-agricultural workspace.

The new school design also features low VOC materials, energy efficient lighting and HVAC controls systems, state of the art educational technology\campus-wide video distribution, terrazzo, rubber, and modular carpet flooring. Both main corridors and cafeteria space utilize exposed truss systems and clear span skylights to allow daylight autonomy for increased indoor quality and energy efficiency.

Classes in the existing facilities were ongoing during new construction, though once completed, the existing school was demolished and new parking, bus loop and new vehicular and service drives will be constructed.
